Public or distributed
Threshold & commit–reveal randomness
Several contributors combine inputs so no single contributor chooses the final value.
Evaluation card
What “plenty” means here.
- Required property
- Commitments that bind later reveals, enough honest participation, and rules for missing contributors.
- If it fails
- The last revealer withholds after seeing others’ values, or participants submit many identities to gain influence.
- Relevant attacker
- A coalition of contributors coordinating, aborting, or manipulating membership.
- The Plenty Line
- Choose a protocol with explicit bias and liveness guarantees for the assumed corruption threshold.
- Why more is not automatically better
- Adding contributors helps only when their independence and protocol behavior are defensible.
Where it appears
Recognize the pattern.
- 01distributed key generation
- 02threshold beacons
- 03multi-party public draws
The Plentropy rule
Protect the requirement, then stop.
Choose a protocol with explicit bias and liveness guarantees for the assumed corruption threshold.
Once that claim has comfortable evidence and margin, improve the next limiting factor instead of worshipping a larger entropy number.
