Reproducible randomness
Procedural generation
A compact seed can recreate a world, texture, level, or musical pattern.
Evaluation card
What “plenty” means here.
- Required property
- Stable deterministic mapping from seed to result and a generator with acceptable visual variety.
- If it fails
- Version changes alter existing worlds, visible patterns emerge, or two subsystems accidentally share a stream.
- Relevant attacker
- Usually no adversary; in competitive games, prediction may become relevant.
- The Plenty Line
- Namespace independent streams, version the generator, and store the seed and generation settings.
- Why more is not automatically better
- Unrepeatable entropy defeats the main benefit: sharing and regenerating the same artifact.
Where it appears
Recognize the pattern.
- 01game worlds
- 02terrain
- 03textures
- 04generative music
The Plentropy rule
Protect the requirement, then stop.
Namespace independent streams, version the generator, and store the seed and generation settings.
Once that claim has comfortable evidence and margin, improve the next limiting factor instead of worshipping a larger entropy number.
